What are the Senior Games?
The largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors had a record number of participants in 2007: more than 12,000 senior athletes, aged 50 to 100, descended on Louisville, Kentucky, for the 2007 Summer National Senior Games, June 22 – July 8. More than 600 of the athletes who participated are Humana members.
Humana's Involvement
Humana was presenting sponsor for the 10th biennial Games, governed by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA), and will continue sponsorship for the next two games. “Meeting these athletes and watching them compete was awe-inspiring,” says Steve Brueckner, Humana’s vice president of senior products. “Humana was honored to host the 2007 Senior Games.”
Humana’s involvement in the games underscores the company’s belief in the importance of seniors living full, healthy, and active lives.
Information on National Senior Games Association
The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) has 50 member states that hold local and state games. NSGA estimates that the games involve 350,000 seniors annually. The next National Games won’t occur until 2009, but Phil Godfrey, president and CEO of the NSGA, a thought for to consider while they wait for the next national competition: “I challenge each participant to go home and get one person involved who is not currently exercising. That is the best thing you can possibly do”
