What is a Starlight Award?

The Humana Starlight Award honors an exceptional senior volunteer whose giving spirit brightens the lives of others. The award is given to the nominee who has best influenced and shaped the community in Mind, Body, or Spirit.

How will the Starlight Award Recipient be notified?

The Starlight Award recipient will be honored at a ceremony and a one-time grant of $10,000 will be awarded to the qualifying nonprofit organization of his or her choice. A panel of community leaders, public officials, and local executives will review the applications and select the award recipient.

How to Nominate a volunteer?

If your non-profit organization would like to nominate a volunteer, complete the application with details on your group and the volunteer you would like to honor. Nominees must be 65 years of age or older and must have served as a volunteer in 2007 in a city listed below. The nominee cannot be an elected official.

What are the guidelines Organizations must meet in order to participate?

Organizations must be classified as 501(c) (3) and must have been in operation for at least one year. The company cannot have a political or religious affiliation to be eligible for the $10,000 grant. The committee will give special consideration to organizations helping the senior population. Also, the organization must benefit the community in one of three service categories:

• Mind: improves the educational landscape resulting in higher levels of achievementcontent
  
  
• Body: engaged in the promotion of healthy bodies and lifestyles
  
  
• Spirit: inspires communities and brightens the human spirit
