Humana’s program for rare diseases is designed to address the needs of less-common conditions. Through specific programs for each disease, participants receive information tailored to their individual situation, helping contribute to positive outcomes. |
Program Goals
Our rare diseases program implements a team approach to address the individual's medical, educational, and psychological needs.
Conditions included
This program helps with the management of these 13 chronic, degenerative diseases:
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Hemophilia
- Scleroderma
- Polymyositis
- Dermatomyositis
- Lupus
- Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP)

- Parkinson’s Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Sickle Cell Disease
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Myasthenia Gravis
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Services provided
The following are included in the program:
- Disease-specific online tools and resources
- 24-hour, toll-free access to specially trained nurses for education, service coordination assistance, and general support
The bottom line
Among participants in the program:
- 93 percent of Cystic Fibrosis patients can perform daily airway clearance, lowering their risk for inpatient admissions
- 100 percent of hemophilia participants are aware of early bleeding symptom management
- 99 percent of Lupus participants are able to identify the warning signs of infections
